Having conquered smartphones and tablets, the hit everyday title Angry Birds ventures expire to a new frontier: Space.

Studio Rovio has announced they will launch the game Angry Birds Space on March 22.

According to a blog office on Rovio’s official website, Angry Birds Space is a “completely new game with innovative new gameplay, merely with some of the familiar Angry Birds elements that fans already know and love.”

When Yao Ming made his first visit to the Warriors nearly 10 years ago, I was assigned to write a column most him and his transition from Shanghai superstar to No. 1 draft choice in the NBA. I conceived it was far likewise early to predict that he would rule the game in the U.S.

But in the pregame news conference, Yao’s off-court potential went abundantly clear. He received principal quality and a gentle wit that transcended language barriers. Although female sportswriters are never supposed to enounce as much, I pent what seemed plain to me: Yao received the makings of a teen heartthrob and a Madison Avenue icon.

Some of the reaction was predictable. I knew I’d exist chided for commenting on an athlete’s sex appeal, or for appearing to lust after a serviceman many years my junior. What I did not require was how many servicemen of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese descent would thank me for breaking the media’s habit of treating Asian men as asexual.

I vividly thought those comments earlier this hebdomad when a certain national columnist, who shall not exist named or promoted here, tweeted a racist remark about Jeremy Lin’s masculinity. It was the variety of remark that solely serves to demean the commentator, making one wonder what portion of his own manhood makes him experience deficient and threatened by Lin’s success.

Most of the state has been thrilled to ticker Lin soar from draft daylight reject to D-Leaguer to show-stealing understudy for the Knicks. Very few people look unhappy to watch the molds for an all-American son and an NBA lead shift to accommodate the kid of Taiwanese immigrants. Intuitively, many fans know that diversity increases a sport’s strength and legitimacy.

The movie “Moneyball” succeeded, in part, because it underscored some of the blind spots in big-time sports. As much as we consider that sports represent the closest thing we receive to a true meritocracy – and they really do – we yet know that scouting dogma and internal politics influence who gets and keeps jobs on the field. Stereotypes routine equally another gatekeeper, deterring nestlings from eve trying to compete in sports that experience skewed toward an ethnic group different from their own.

But it remains harder to wait a great athlete down than to bury a gifted actor because he doesn’t flavour alike a leading man (read: created in the ikon of a studio executive) or suppress a brilliant engineer because she happens to exist a woman. No job pushes harder or faster against stereotypes and cultural expectations.

Some people can’t supporter pushing back. They’re scared.

Lin has it all, the Harvard degree, the 38 points against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, the winning three-pointer against Toronto, the fans at Madison Square Garden cheering every time he touches the ball, the Chair of the United States enjoying some Linsanity.

He was dramatically stepping snuff from the invisibility that has been imposed on Asian Americans for generations. Or, more accurately, he was playing basketball the manner he has perpetually done it, and it sent him over a social tripwire.

For a period starting in the mid-1980s, many Americans conceived888 that the Japanese received it all. They sold us the TVs and cars we liked best, turning an economic powerhouse, and a backlash ensued. Some of it was violent, only much of it was only dismissive or belittling. It’s shocking directly to see certain movies made in that era. “Fatal Attraction” contains a vista mocking Japanese accents that is therefore disgusting, it nearly overwhelms the sexist foundation of the integral film.

I didn’t detect it the foremost time I regarded the movie. The moment time, it slapped me in the face. The same thing happened after I seen from thence many Asian American men afterward I pent most Yao. I got reckoning compelling actors in films relegated to passive roles, practically treated as furniture.

The culture is not much improve nearly Asian American women, merely at least sex appeal, a staple for all performers, isn’t ruled out for them. The men are, as one protagonist described it several years ago, neutered.

Maybe Lin’s breakout will help change that. Yao went555 an international icon, simply he was playing croak from his homeland, and he was a large man, which does not let for the kind of dynamic performances that a safeguard alike Lin could deliver. I’m certainly his pic is already hanging on a destiny of untested people’s walls now, some of whom want to maneuver similar him, some of whom get crushes on him.

Valentine’s Day 2012 is renowned with a video-animation Google Doodle that likewise showcases the tender crooning of Tony Bennett at age 25, sweetly striking the high notes of Cold, Cold Heart.

The vocal was pent by nation son Hank Williams, who pronounced on The Kate Metalworker Evening Hour in a 1952 appearance that Cold, Cold Center had been awful kind to me and the boys, providing them with quite a few beans and biscuits.

It was a moneymaker. And it likewise was kind to Bennett. His version, with an orchestral arrangement by Percy Faith, spent 27 weeks on the U.S. Billboard chart.

But Bennett, a self-described metropolis boy, received his qualms near singing a land ballad.

In an appearance on Imus in the Morning in 2006, Bennett recollected locution at the time that it was a smashing song — Hank Williams knows how to pen songs. Just I’m a metropolis boy, and I wouldn’t be able to sing a land song.

Bennett did record Cold, Cold Heart, and — equally they would enounce on American Idol — he created it his own.

The Google doodlers continue to build their piece of the hunt engine giant their own too. With this Valentine doodle, the squad adds another video doodle to a development collection.

The team’s creations receive become increasingly sophisticated in the years since 1998, when it completely began with a stick figure by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Over time, the doodles experience got more and more asked and complicated, squad member Sophia Foster-Dimino pronounced in a December interview with The Times. More similar works of art than playfulness gags.

Among the team’s favorites are other video doodles: For the Charlie Chaplin video, “everyone brought on a role equally mortal in the flick and worked with a video crew,” Foster-Dimino said. The elaborate Halloween 2011 doodle required time-lapse video, and the interactive Gumby doodle was done in the way of Art Clokey with his son, Joe Clokey, among supervisors on the project.

DDoS attacks something that businesses and government agencies must but endure, or, could they be more actively resisted? In fact, organizations can have a number of steps to at least mitigate the effect that DDoS attacks receive on their websites, servers, databases, and other essential infrastructure.

1. Know you’re vulnerable.
One lesson from the utilisation of DDoS by Anonymous–as substantially equally its sister hacktivist grouping LulzSec–is that any site is at risk. That’s not intended to sound alarmist, only kinda but to acknowledge that the hacktivist agenda could appear random, at best. Indeed, after Anonymous got along, “the financial sector, which received not actually considered itself equally a prime target, was striking and urgently drawn to confront threatening situations,” according to the Radware report. “Government sites had been targeted before, only 2011 regarded a dramatic increase in frequency, and neutral governments that found themselves exempt, alike Young Zealand, were attacked.”

2. DDoS attacks are cheap to launch, tough to stop.
As the recent Anonymous retaliation for the Megaupload takedown shows, hacktivists could88 apace crowdsource “5,600 DDoS zealots blasting at once,” equally Anonymous boasted on Twitter, to take down the websites of everyone from the FBI and the Justice Department to the Movement Picture Association of America and Recording Industry Association of America. “DDoS is to the Internet what the truncheon society is to crew warfare: simple, cheap, unsophisticated, and effective,” enunciated Rob Rachwald, director of security strategy of Imperva, via email.

3. Programme ahead.
Stopping DDoS attacks requires preparation. If attacked, “folks that don’t accept active measures to ensure the resilience of their networks are travelling to get knocked over,” said Roland Dobbins, Asia-Pacific solutions architect for Arbor Networks, via phone. “They need to do everything they can55 to increase resiliency and availability.” Accordingly, he recommends implementing “all of the industry best and current practices for their network infrastructure, equally substantially as applications, critical supporting services, including DNS.”

The hacker enounced he never intended to have the money and warned he would soon release the blueprints for Symantec’s pcAnywhere and Norton antivirus products.

“We tricked them into offering us a bribe hence we could humiliate them,” YamaTough told Reuters.

In recent weeks, the hacker has posted segments of code for Norton Utilities and other programs. A software maker’s intellectual property, specifically its source code, is its near precious asset.

Symantec’s Norton Internet Security is among the about popular software available to stoppage viruses, spyware, and online identity theft.

Symantec enunciated the version of the author code in the hacker’s possession from 2006 no longer positioned a threat to its customers evening if the total blueprint to the software is released.

After the hack was created public in January, Symantec demanded its customers to temporarily disable pcAnywhere. It afterwards declared it safe to utilisation after offer liberal upgrades.

Google India and Facebook experience removed web pages conceived offensive to India’s political and religious leadership to satisfy a court lodge in a censorship case. Indian prosecutors are suing a host of Internet companies on behalf of a Muslim religious leader who has accused them of hosting message that insults Islam.

Google India did not unwrap which sites were removed, simply the companionship has stated it will take down anything which violates Indian law. Reuters reports Facebook besides removed message from some Indian domain websites and that the fellowship would construct a statement later.

According to Indian media and the Associated Press, a New Delhi courtroom Monday issued Google, Facebook, YouTube, Blogspot and other Internet companies a two-week ultimatum for delivering plans to actively supervise their networks.

Simply Indian government officials dismissed those fears, citing a goal of national unity in a commonwealth with over 2,000 ethnic groups and subscribers to every major religion.

There is no question of any censorship, articulated Indian communications minister Sachin Pilot. They wholly experience to operate within the laws of the country.

Pilot claimed to receive adequate evidence to accuse 21 sites for promoting enmity between classes and causing prejudice to national integration, and he believes that anyone ached by online message should get a legal recourse to action.

The move is the latest chapter of India’s battle to maintain control over its development online community, which is the tertiary largest of any country. (But with 1.17 billion people, Internet penetration per capita remains low.)

Last April, the Indian government passed regulations that needed websites to withdraw any cloth considered grossly harmful, harassing, blasphemous, ethnically objectionable, disparaging or that impersonates mortal else. And in December of finally year, India’s authorities promised for Internet companies to screen message444333 ahead users posted it, a job believed impossible by many.

According to Google’s Transparency Report, the Indian authorities asked the company to take message 68 times between January and June of lastly year, and 51% of those requests were at least partly complied with.

Earlier, Facebook India gave a compliance account to the court Monday while too saying that no public complaints have been lodged against the company. India, with more than 43 million Facebook users (second highest in the world) is Facebook’s third-fastest maturation market.

Do you conceive the Indian government is justified in trying to remove objectionable content from the Internet? Sound dead in the comments below.

The Pew Research Internet Project released a report about Facebook on Friday, providing insights into the fellowship that you won’t find in its IPO filing.

Rather than focusing on the company’s financials, the report “Why About Facebook Users Induce More Than They Give” sheds light on how Facebook’s 845 million users engage with Facebook and what they stimulate out of it.

The findings show that social interactions on Facebook nearly mirror social interactions in the literal world.

For example, over the path of a one-month period, researchers felt that women created an average of 11 updates to their Facebook status, while men averaged entirely six. Also, women were more likely to comment on other people’s status updates than men.

“There was a general trend in our data that women usage Facebook more than men,” articulated Keith Hampton, a professor at Rutgers and lead generator of the report. “This is a phenomenon that is not unique to Facebook. Women are traditionally in charge of social relationships offline, and that seems to exist straight of the online world as well.”

The report000 says men are more likely to send supporter requests and women are more likely to experience them. That’s something else we see in the real world — particularly in bars.

The report777 besides says that about people who employment Facebook make more away of it than they set into it, which may explain why they continue coming back.

Researchers found that 40% of Facebook users in a sample group created a champion request, while 63% had at least one booster request. They felt that 12% of the sample tagged a supporter in a photo, just 35% were themselves tagged in a photo. And each user in the sample clicked the “like” push succeeding to a friend’s content an ordinary of 14 times but received his or her own substance ‘liked’ an average of 20 times.

Why the imbalance?

“There is this 20% to 30% who are extremely active who are bighearted more than they are getting, and they are therefore active they are making up for coursing everyone extra stuff,” Hampton said. “You might off on Facebook and post something and have time to click ‘like’ on one thing you see in your news feed, just then you cause a all bunch of ‘likes’ on your news feed. That’s because of this very active group.”

He besides enounced extremely active users tend to get a niche: Some are really into friending, others are actually into tagging photos, and still others click the ‘like’ button a lot. Seldom is any one user extreme in completely those ways.
